Cretan Aquarium

The Aquarium was a very important addition to the local community as it became a meeting point for educational activities and attracts tourist from various locations every year.

More specifically our team has constructed an aquarium of 3000 m3, with 2 different slopes as well as a mirror and a handrail put simultaneously on the slab. The construction details concerning the aquarium were highly important due to the fact that the crystals were brought from Japan...

Moreover, our team has constructed an aquarium of 3000 m3, with 2 different slopes as well as a mirror and a handrail put simultaneously on the slab. The construction details concerning the aquarium were highly important due to the fact that the crystals were brought from Japan. Because of their dimensions and the difficulty of transport to the port, the minimum error allowed was 1mm, meaning that curved and polygonical shapes should be constructed in order to gently handle the crystals. The spaces that were shaped to host the different ecosystems, had high requirements due to the special materials and the special construction needed. This was greatly significant so as to create their natural environment as it was originally designed. During the process, the engineering team was faced with a number of issues in the underground space, resulting from the fact that they were 2m depth, under sea level. Last, but certainly not least, the equipment management was extremely significant and helpful, as there were machines that had to accurately checked and controlled so as to avoid any accidents and mistakes.
